School to Work Transition of Youth in Korea: the Characteristics and Policy Implications

Abstract
The aim of this article is to examine characteristics of school to work transition of youth, then, suggest implications for smooth transition from school to work. In order to analyze it, first wave(2001¢¦2006) of Youth Panel data is used. The dataset are divided by gender (male & female) and level of final education (high school graduate & university graduate). We examine sequences of labour market statuses using explorative methods of optimal matching and sequence analysis. As a result, firstly, almost all Korean youth have experienced NEET after graduating high school or university. Secondly, education is an important variable for STWT smoothly. Thus, thirdly, we need to strengthen activation policy for high school graduate.
